Next Friday, Professor David Hestenes from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Arizona State University will give a lunchtime talk at the School of Physics and Astronomy.
鈥淣aive beliefs about the physical world鈥� is the most thoroughly investigated subject in physics education research. Professor Hestenes proposes there is a fundamental problem, with broader educational implications, which has not been addressed in most science curricula, teaching practices and educational policy. That is, teachers as well as students have naive beliefs about knowing and learning that interfere with the development of intellectual skills.
