More about ‘Once a Catholic’ by Mary O’Malley

Described as “St Trinian’s” meets “Father Ted”, this award winning, hilarious, saucy and irreverent comedy, will be on stage at the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton from 22nd – 26th June 2010, presented by Southampton University Players.

The play follows the high jinks of a group of pupils (all called Mary!) at the very strict and terribly ‘proper’ convent school of Our Lady of Fatima. Aware that Hell and Damnation are all that await them if they commit a ‘mortal sin’, but young, inquisitive and full of mischief, the girls take their first steps into the world of boyfriends and encounter the real ‘facts of life’.With nuns watching their every move and scrutinizing their every thought, they wrestle with utterly confusing biology lessons, an intoxicated priest, and the attentions of an over eager Teddy boy. Set against a background of rock and roll and the ‘corrupting influence’ of that ‘despicable’ Elvis Presley, this show is a real treat and not to be missed. If you admit to being alive in the fifties the play will revive many memories; if you don’t it will be an education!

The play runs from Tuesday 22 to Saturday 26 June at 7.30pm at the Nuffield Theatre, with a discounted ticket price of £10 for staff and students (on production of staff or student ID card).

Group discounts apply. To book tickets, or for more information, contact the Box Office on 023 8067 1771 or go online at
