Lecture by BBC political reporter Jon Sopel: Friday 21 October at 11am in 45/0045

Staff and students are invited to attend a lecture presented by Southampton alumnus Jon Sopel‚ BBC News Channel and Politics Show presenter.

The talk – ‘Hacking‚ the Murdoch press and politics’ will take place on Friday 21 October at 11am in Room 45/0045.

Numbers are strictly limited due to venue capacity, and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, with priority extended to students who wish to attend the event.

Jon Sopel presents the Politics Show on BBC One, is one of the lead presenters on the BBC News Channel and was voted Political Journalist of the Year in 2007 by the public affairs industry. Jon has interviewed all the leading figures in British politics and has presented special editions of the show from Helmand province in Afghanistan, St Petersburg, Washington, Alabama and Davos. During the recent General Election, Jon fronted the widely acclaimed and popular Campaign Show each evening.

As well as presenting during the peak early-evening weekday slot for the News Channel, he has anchored programmes for the channel from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and Sri Lanka following the Tsunami; he was in Rome for the death of the Pope and on the Israel/Lebanon border during the conflict there. Jon is also a regular presenter on other BBC news programmes.
