For several years University staff and students have gathered at the end of October to celebrate El DÃa del los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This important Mexican cultural practice is an uplifting fiesta, in which families remember their dead, place altars in their homes and decorate tombs.
This year the event will take place from 31st October to 11th November at Avenue campus and is hosted by the Centre for Mexico-Southampton Collaboration (MEXSU) and Routes into Languages, along with the MEXSOC (Mexican Society at Southampton University). During this week of celebration, Modern Language students will welcome pupils from local schools and Colleges who will come to share and learn about this Mexican cultural practice. The pupils learn Spanish using Mexican books, animated characters and films and also participate in completing the DÃa de los Muertos Quiz.
