University staff and students are invited to fill out a short questionnaire on their behaviours which contribute to the University鈥檚 carbon emissions鈥� as part of a study on comparing Southampton鈥檚 performance in carbon management within the Russell Group (the 20 Research鈥搇ed鈥� UK institutions)鈥� being undertaken as part of the University鈥檚 carbon reduction activities.
The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has set a carbon reduction target for the higher education sector of 34% below 1990 levels by 2020 in scope 1 and 2 emissions.
The study, being undertaken by Environmental Science Student Oliver Robinson will also contribute to a final-year dissertation project and will be used by the University鈥檚 Environment Manager: Dr Neil Smith to identify staff and student perception on the institution鈥檚 carbon management strategies. Mr Simon Kemp; senior teaching fellow and admissions tutor for Environmental sciences is also adding technical expertise to the study.
