We’re delighted to聽welcome the appointment of Professor Graham Reed who is acknowledged聽as a pioneer in silicon photonics and the initiator of the research聽field in the UK.
Graham and his team have moved the group鈥檚 base聽to the University, where they will be using many of the聽excellent state-of-the-art facilities on offer in the new Mountbatten聽Institute.
鈥淲e are delighted to be based at the University of Southampton and聽particularly within the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) 鈥 a聽photonics beacon within the UK. We are particularly looking forward聽to using the new fabrication facilities in the clean room complex, as聽well as the superb photonics laboratories,鈥 said Graham.
鈥淥ur work will also complement the silicon work that was already聽being carried out by the Nano group in Electronics and Computer聽Science (ECS).
鈥淲e knew there were so many world-class researchers in the ORC and聽ECS in Southampton but there are even more excellent people and聽equipment here than we expected. The atmosphere is so positive and聽there is an air of expectation and success. It is great to be part of聽such an environment.
鈥淎s a group we are excited about the prospect of doing even more聽good work than we have done before and working with our new聽colleagues to engage in a wider array of projects.
Graham is regularly invited to contribute to major silicon photonics聽conferences around the world. He has served on and chaired numerous聽international conference committees and published more than 250聽papers in the field of silicon photonics.
