St Michael鈥檚 Church, Southampton and the University of Southampton Music Department mark Remembrance Sunday with a special performance of Franz Joseph Haydn鈥檚 Mass in D minor, Hob. XXII:11, Missa in Angustiis (鈥淢ass in Time of Trouble鈥�).聽 Haydn wrote it in 1798, the year of Admiral Horatio Nelson鈥檚 victory against French naval forces in the Battle of the Nile 鈥� hence the alternative title 鈥淣elson Mass鈥�.聽 Nelson himself may have heard the Mass performed when he visited Eisenstadt in 1800.
Paul Cox conducts the University鈥檚 HARTLEY Singers and Sinfonia, joined by guest soloists and Cantores Michaelis 鈥� the university choral scholars based at St Michael鈥檚.
