This annual lecture is supported by Humanities, Business & Law and Amnesty International. This is the third annual Human Rights lecture and this year our speaker is Camila Batmanghelidjh CBE, founder of the charity Kids Company.
For the 1.5 million children who are maltreated in Britain there is minimal access to human rights, they cannot pay for lobbyists or hold politicians accountable. Theirs in an invisible citizenship with huge repercussions for the rest of their lives. A child shouldn’t have to beg for their safety and dignity in one of the world’s wealthiest countries.
The speaker this year will focus on children’s human rights. Kids Company, intensively supports 18,000 children across London, including the most deprived and at risk, and provides a safe and caring environment. They provide practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children through six centres, and two therapy houses. They also offer therapeutic and social work services in over 40 inner-city schools. There will be an end of lecture collection for Amnesty International and Kids Company.
