If you were away over the summer, you may have missed the news that the University now sits alongside some of the world鈥檚 leading companies 鈥� including Rolls Royce and Lloyd鈥檚 Register 鈥� having reached the international standard for environmental management.
The institution has achieved ISO14001 certification following an extensive audit in July 2014.聽Colleagues can include this new certification on research grant applications, to make them even more competitive.
Dr Neil Smith, the University鈥檚 Environment Manager, who has led work towards achieving the certification with Adam Tewkesbury, Transport Manager, notes: 鈥淭he auditors were keen to stress that this is not the end of the journey for Southampton. A key component is continuous improvement, and they will expect to see that demonstrated if we are to maintain this status.鈥�
