At Southampton, we have an ambitious target to reduce our carbon emissions by 20% by 2020 (compared to 2005/6 levels). As part of our efforts to highlight and reduce our energy usage, Southampton Blackout was introduced in 2012. This year, Blackout will take place across Highfield, Avenue, WSA and Boldrewood.
During Southampton Blackout, staff and student teams turn off all non-essential electrical equipment in office areas and computer rooms that has been left on before the weekend (i.e. computers, printers, lights, mobile phone chargers).
Blackout will only encompass offices and computer learning spaces (excluding laboratories and lecture theatres). However, this is a big task so a group of over 200 student volunteers led by around 70 staff team leaders will commence the Blackout.
If you have pieces of equipment that need to be left on, please and return it to j.kendal@soton.ac.ukÌý²ú²â 17.00, Thursday 13 November 2014. The team leader in charge of the event will ensure that the equipment is left on.
We need staff to volunteer to help turn off the equipment. If you want to get involved or have any further questions, please email Julia Kendal.
