Lindsay Allen, Interim Head of Employee Relations at the University, has recently been recognised for her 鈥渙utstanding contribution鈥 to the Thames Valley Branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
Lindsay, who has been involved with local CIPD聽activities on a voluntary basis for almost 20 years, was awarded the CIPD鈥檚 prestigious ‘PACE’ Award for Volunteering in January, one of only six people nationally to receive the award. The聽awards were set up to recognise volunteers who actively demonstrate the CIPD values: purposeful, agile, collaborative and expert,聽and use them to make a significant contribution and impact to Branch activities or national initiatives.
Janice Donaldson, HR Director聽said 鈥淲e are delighted that Lindsay’s commitment, energy and passion for the work of the CIPD has been recognised.”
Over the years, Lindsay’s involvement as a volunteer with the Branch has given her the opportunity to be involved in a very wide range of projects ranging from co-ordinating major conferences with leading speakers, developing Branch communications for over 4,300 local members, and promoting the use of new technology, such as websites and social media, to help members access information and continuing professional development events.
Reacting to the award, Lindsay said: 鈥淚 was genuinely very surprised but delighted to be recognised聽for my contribution in this way.聽My聽involvement with the Branch has given me the opportunity to work with some fantastic colleagues who have supported and mentored me as my career has progressed. It is a very exciting time with lots of change in the world of work.
I believe passionately in encouraging others to engage in continuing professional development and聽using this to help organisations respond to these changes as well as raising standards within the HR profession. Being involved in the CIPD is very rewarding. It is a way to give something back.聽By helping colleagues learn and develop, they are better placed to help their organisations to thrive.鈥
