John Hansard Gallery joins Plus Tate

The John Hansard Gallery is delighted to announce that it has been selected to join the contemporary visual arts network, Plus Tate.

Plus Tate was launched in 2010 with 18 original partners, plus the four Tate galleries, to聽build a network of knowledge聽to strengthen the contemporary visual arts ecology in the UK. The John Hansard Gallery is one of 16 new partners announced by Tate.

Gallery Director, Stephen Foster, comments:

鈥淭he John Hansard Gallery has a long and well-established relationship with Tate, and this accolade is a fantastic formal recognition of this. We are excited to be part of the network, and welcome the expertise and opportunities provided by being part of the prestigious group.鈥

Jane Savidge, Chair of the University of Southampton鈥檚 Arts Strategy Committee, adds:

The John Hansard鈥檚 membership of Plus Tate is a result of Stephen Foster鈥檚 long-standing development of the Gallery鈥檚 reputation within the sector and the exciting development of the Southampton聽 new arts complex, currently under construction in the city centre.鈥

The invitation to join Plus Tate came as a result of an open application process, in which a premium was placed on a strong artistic vision, a focus on contemporary art, outstanding public programming and a commitment to local community engagement through art.

John Hansard Gallery鈥檚 relocation to Southampton鈥檚 New arts complex next year has been recognised as an exceptional opportunity for the Gallery to contribute to the Plus Tate network and to increase the aim, ambition and reach for the Gallery programme in the city centre.
