How to make the most of Southampton over the summer

Southampton has a lot to offer over the summer and to help you make the most of the oncoming calmer months, we’ve gathered some opportunities for you to discover.

On campus

Although there are some ÌýoverÌýthe summer, there’s still plenty going on. The SUSU market will continue every Thursday throughout the Summer, bringing you fruit, vegetables, and other local produce.

Ìýis bringingÌýHis Dark Materials: & , andÌýÌýto theatre-goers this summer. The five starÌýplayÌýÌýwill also be returning to the campus’ stage. If archaeology is your passion, Avenue Campus is hosting a freeÌýon SundayÌý11 July.

, Chairman of the Trustees of the Queen Elizabeth II Prize for Engineering, will visit the University on Wednesday 15 JulyÌýfor his lecture is entitled ‘Why business must fix its relationship with society and how it can do it.’ The lecture is part of our .

Where to go

AÌýwander down to the docks to ‘Walk the Walls’ makes for a very nice trip in the sunshine. If it’s sand and sea you’re after though, there are a handful of beaches within a 30 mile radius- just a hop on the away. TheÌýBeach Bus runs daily between Saturday 26 July and Monday 31 August, taking beach-seekers away from the city to Lymington, Lepe Beach and Hythe.

The Common is always pretty when the sun is shining, and a great spot for a barbecue, or take a stroll through Riverside Park in Bitterne. has listed a few hidden gems well worth discovering.

Events

Southampton is a busy place throughout July and August, despite many studentsÌýmoving home. on offer include the in Hoglands Park and taking over the Common on Sunday 11 July.

FreeÌýevents over Saturday 24 and Sunday 26 July, again in Hoglands Park, will show favourites such asÌýDirty Dancing, Mean GirlsÌýandÌýThe Beach. The Ìýwill be bringing rides and candyfloss to the Common between Thursday 27 and Monday 31 August.

With all of this going on, and much of it free, you won’t be short of things to do.
