World Mental Health Day: Are you taking care of your mental health?

Following the success of the previous , led by the Student’s Union, a number of events and services will be on offer to all students during the coming weeks in order to raise awareness for, and celebrate, Mental Health Day 2015.

Elephant in the room campaign

This year’s campaign seeks to raise awareness of what can be done to ensure that those who suffer with mental health problems can live with dignity.

The will be offering Drop-in sessions every weekday during term time from 1-3pm, in the Enabling Services waiting area which is located in Building 37, Highfield Campus.

Students are invited to come by and have a chat about anything that might be of concern to them, learn more about support available and find out about upcoming workshops.

These sessions aim to offer a range of support services, including: counselling, crisis support, disability and  dyslexia support, information regarding Disabled Students’ Allowance, needs assessments and many more. One-to-one appointments are also available.

As part of the on-going ‘Elephant in the Room’ campaign, SUSU have been working to reduce the stigma surrounding
mental health issues.

Their newest campaign sees the installation of a life-sized baby elephant, designed to get people talking about mental health. The elephant is currently being displayed at Southampton Civic Centre, until Friday 16 October.

The installation is the first part of a series of events in partnership with the mental health anti-stigma campaign .

A pop-up village, which has also been arranged in collaboration with Time to Change, will open on the 16 October.

Expect live entertainment and a ‘human library’, where people will be sharing their real-life experiences of living with mental health issues.
