Do you think you have what it takes to represent Southampton on University Challenge? Try-outs for the BBC quiz show will be taking place on Campus next week.
This year鈥檚 team are aiming to improve聽the University’s聽previous results, after having lost their first round match to . They were, however, amongst the quiz show鈥檚 鈥榟ighest scoring losers鈥�, having scored a commendable 135.
The University鈥檚 team two years ago progressed to the quarter finals 鈥� a feat which this year鈥檚 team hopes to better.
Tricia Goggin, the captain of the 2015 team is a second year PhD student, studying Biomedical Engineering. 130 universities applied for the original team, and only 28 were chosen for the series.
Goggin, speaking of this year鈥檚 try-outs, commented,
鈥淚鈥檇 encourage students from ALL subjects and levels to try-out [鈥 A good team needs a balance of academic disciplines as well as some esoteric knowledge from all members.
鈥淎nyone who is registered as a student, pursuing a recognized qualification and will be a student for the rest of this academic year can apply.鈥�
The team will be holding two rounds of selection, the first a written test and the second, a quick fire question round. The dates for the first round are:
- Tuesday 27 October聽at 13:00 in the聽Students鈥� Union聽building
- Wednesday 28 October at 13:00 and 14:00 in the Students鈥� Union building
- Thursday 29聽October聽at 17:30 in the Students鈥� Union building
- Friday 30 October聽at 13:00 at Southampton General Hospital
