If you need to leave essential equipment switched on during  on 13 November, please by the end of today (6 November) requesting an ‘opt out’ from the evening.
Blackout is designed to highlight the positive impact of our collective small actions on campus just by switching off computers, lights and devices at the end of each day.
Switching off equipment not only reduces our energy consumption and carbon emissions but cuts our annual electricity bill too.
Blackout covers offices and Common Learning Spaces but excludes lecture theatres and laboratories and ECS computer laboratories.
On the night, teams of staff and students will audit and switch off any equipment left on unnecessarily before the weekend and then measure the impact on our electricity usage.
If you fill in the form, you will be sent a poster to display on the piece of equipment that is to be left on.
If you’re worried that switching off your computer means it will take even longer to start, please check with if it normally takes longer than 4 minutes, as there may be something wrong with it.
