Climate change risks to UK

Researchers from the University have contributed to a major new report that provides authoritative scientific assessment of climate change risks to the聽UK.

福利着片ly, 14 of the 15 hottest years on record have occurred since 2000. The impacts of climate change are already being felt in the UK, and urgent action is required to address climate-related risks say the Committee on Climate Change鈥檚 Adaptation Sub-Committee (ASC).

and from at the University聽contributed research findings to the ASC鈥檚 new independent report to Government, , which sets out the most urgent risks and opportunities arising for the UK from climate change.

Their contribution was based on a research paper published last year, which looked at the impact of climate-related environmental change on the UK solid waste sector and highlighted the need for further work and the gaps in current knowledge.

Geoff Watson said:

鈥淚t is important that impacts of climate change on all aspects of UK infrastructure are identified.聽 We are very pleased to have contributed to a better understanding of the climate-related risks to the UK waste sector.鈥

The report is the result of more than three years of work involving hundreds of leading scientists and experts from the public and private sectors and civil society. The risk assessment has been peer reviewed by UK and international specialists.

Changes to the UK climate are likely to include periods of too much or too little water, increasing average and extreme temperatures as well as a rise in sea level.
