Students amongst the stars at Edinburgh Fringe

Talented students from the University have entertained and enthused both audiences and critics alike at this year鈥檚 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

‘Mean Girls meets Lord of the Flies’:聽a scene from Numbers, written by Kieron Barry.

The students have taken five shows to Edinburgh this year, touring under the name 鈥楪one Rogue Productions鈥 which encompasses the theatrical performing arts talents of the and student societies.

Southampton students have performed two straight plays at the Festival 鈥 A Number, by Caryl Churchill, which explores the consequences and pitfalls of artificial human cloning; and Numbers, a dark and tense comedy by Kieron Barry focusing on four teenage girls聽described as ‘Mean Girls meets Lord of the Flies’.

They have also staged the musical Ordinary Days in Edinburgh which follows four New Yorkers whose parallel lives converge as they search for purpose, love, and taxi cabs.聽In addition, the聽University鈥檚 very own comedy troupe 鈥楤eard of Zeus鈥 presented The Very Nice Improv Show.

Ilsa Jones, a second-year English and Film Studies student who plays Isabel in Numbers commented:

鈥淓dinburgh is an amazing place and the atmosphere of the festival is incredible. There is so much talent there and it’s wonderful to be a part of it. It鈥檚 really gone well. Both Numbers and A Number will have been performed 10 times during the Festival when we鈥檙e finished and both have received 4* reviews.鈥

All five of the Southampton-staged productions close at the Festival on Monday 29 August. Click for further information about the performances including ticket availability.
