The Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI) is delighted to announce Peter J Diggle, distinguished Professor at Lancaster University聽and President of the , as guest speaker at the Autumn Special S3RI Seminar taking place聽November 22 2016.

The seminar, entitled ‘Statistics: a data science for the 21st century’, will take place from 18:00 – 20:00 in the Mathematical Sciences Building 54, room 4011, and will be followed by a drinks reception.
At the core of the talk is a summary of several recent research projects, through which Professor Diggle hopes to demonstrate that statistics make an essential, but incomplete, contribution to the emerging field of ‘electronic health’ research.
Professor Diggle will offer his personal thoughts on how statistics might best be organised in a research-led university, as well as聽what staff should be teaching students, and finally, his thoughts聽on some issues broadly related to data science.
