Southampton Music professor wins Gramophone Award

Head of Early Music and lutenist Professor Elizabeth Kenny features on a recording which has won a prestigious Gramophone award.

She says:

鈥淚鈥檓 delighted to have been involved with this wonderful recording and I feel honoured to be working with such a distinguished and expressive group of musicians.鈥

The album, released in July 2016 on the Linn label, focusses on English Renaissance composer John Dowland’s 鈥楲achrimae鈥, an intense and passionate set of pavans mixed with flamboyant instrumental dances, first published in 1604.

Gramophone鈥檚 original review praised Phantasm’s 鈥榯otally convincing and absorbing鈥 performances, stating 鈥榥othing is routine in Phantasm’s hands.鈥

Professor Kenny is no stranger to awards this year, teaming up with acclaimed English tenor Ian Bostridge to help win a Grammy in February in the Best Classical Solo Vocal Album for the recording Shakespeare Songs.
