The work of Lecturer in English Literature and Critical Theory,ÌýDevorah Baum was profiled in last week’sÌý
DevorahÌýrecently publishedÌýÌýwith Yale University Press.

The book delves into fiction, film and memoir to explore feelingsÌýwith which modern Jews have often been stereotyped.ÌýItÌýanalyses why such feelings are increasingly common to us all as the pace of globalisation leaves many feeling marginalised, uprooted, and threatened. As Devorah explains, “our feelings have a kind of history“.
The article also celebrates her new bookÌý, which explores how and why Jewish jokes have survived a long and treacherous history and have been able to move across boundaries without having to rewrite their punchlines.
A third project, her film documentaryÌý, was funded by The Wellcome Trust and explores pregnancy from a male point of view.
