Reminder: Professor Timothy Leighton lecture tonight on underwater acoustics

The of the hosts its inaugural lecture at 18:45 tonight, in Lecture Theatre B, Building 46 (Physics) on the Highfield Campus. Doors open at 18:00, and a drinks reception will follow the lecture.

Timothy Leighton, Professor of Ultrasonics and Underwater Acoustics, will present ‘Using the sound of bubbles against two apocalypses’.

The lecture examines how bubbles make sound, and how this influences the ways that we can monitor the ocean and leaks of greenhouse gases from the seabed into the atmosphere.

Timothy will also discuss how the sound of bubbles plays a role in the so-called antibiotic apocalypse, which is thought will cause more deaths than cancer by 2050.

The lecture is free to attend and everyone is welcome. .

The citation of the Paterson Medal of the Institute of Physics in 2006 stated that 鈥淭imothy Leighton鈥檚 contribution is outstanding in both breadth and depth. His is an acknowledged world leader in four fields.鈥
