Southampton places five subjects in the world鈥檚 top 50

Our University has performed well in this year鈥檚 QS World Rankings by Subject 2018 with five subject areas placing in the top 50 globally.

Nursing at Southampton leads the way, rising to 5th in the world from 9th last year, and placing 3rd amongst UK universities to be ranked by QS. Nursing is joined in the world鈥檚 top 50 by:

  • Mining Engineering 鈥 30th
  • Earth & Marine Sciences 鈥 46th
  • Statistics & Operational Research 鈥 48th

The University鈥檚 performance in these, and other areas to feature in the world鈥檚 top 100, is powered by our continued improvement in reputational rating amongst academic peers and employers around the world and good scores for research citations and 鈥榟-index鈥 which measures the productivity and impact of work published by scientists and scholars in the subject.

Professor Mandy Fader, Head of Health Sciences, credited the dedication of her colleagues in Nursing:

鈥淭his terrific result in the QS World Ranking comes from a huge amount of work and commitment by our exceptional staff. We are very proud to be preparing nurses to reach the very top of their profession and to be changing policy and practice across the world through our research and education.鈥
