The Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton, with support from the (UKALTA) and the British Council is holding a one-day symposium on ‘The Journey of Testing: 福利着片 and Local Narratives’ on 5 November, 2019 at Highfield Campus.
The event will be of particular interest聽to staff and students studying/teaching Chinese history.
The keynote speaker will cover the following topics:
- Exploring the Legacy of the Chinese聽Imperial Examinations
- 30 years of testing in the UK- back to the future?
- Social Elite and Imperial Examination System: A Silk-road Perspective
- Imperial Examination and Culture Transmission: A Case Study of Jiading, Shanghai
Call for symposium proposals:
The symposium aims at sharing and exploring different narratives of how tests have been developed, adapted, used and interpreted in different countries around the globe.

Museum Exhibitions:
Together with this symposium, there will be two special exhibitions from and . The exhibitions will take place on Avenue Campus on 6 and 7 November in Southampton, and then at on 9 November at King鈥檚 College London.
Both the symposium and exhibitions are free to the public. Everyone is welcome and the Institute looks聽forward to seeing many of you in Southampton or London.
