Black History Month began on 1 October, and throughout the month colleagues across the University will be organising and hosting a series of events to celebrate the achievements of Black people in the UK.

The first in this series of events is 鈥 a seminar with Associate Professor Nisreen A Alwan at 12.00 on Wednesday 7 October.
鈥Antiracist language is one way to explicitly consider ethnicity and racism within our institutions, both during the pandemic and beyond鈥 -Associate Professor Nisreen A Alwan
- What language can we use to make a change?
- How do we express antiracism in our institution? And what does that mean?
- The dictionary definition of 鈥渢olerate鈥 is to 鈥減ut up with鈥. What do we mean by that? How do we come to tolerance?
These are some of the questions which we will explore during this seminar, to discover how antiracist language can be used to consider ethnicity and racism within our institutions.
