Change to self-isolation period in the UK

Today, Friday 11 December, the UK Chief Medical Officers have released a , reducing it from 14 days to 10. This change will apply in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland from 00:01 on Monday 14 December.

This means:

  • If you are a close contact of someone who has tested positive, you now need to self-isolate for ten days instead of fourteen.
  • People who return from countries which are not on the should also self-isolate for ten days instead of fourteen days.
  • People who test positive should continue to self-isolate for ten days from onset of symptoms or ten days from point of taking a positive test if asymptomatic.
