Today, 31 March, is International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDoV). Founded in 2009, it is an annual awareness day, internationally celebrating the accomplishments of transgender people and raising awareness of the challenges still facing the Trans community.
Recorded transphobic hate crime has doubled in the last three years and one in seven people are reporting their experiences. one in four trans people have been threatened with or experienced transphobic violence. One in three UK employers will not employ a trans person and three in ten had experienced transphobia at work. The most frequently described experiences were being asked invasive questions, being deadnamed and verbal abuse.
is a local charity which supports transgender, non-binary and questioning people, their families, and close friends. They have put together a organised by other organisations, to celebrate TDoV which all community members can participate in.
