to hear why lesbian visibility is so important.
To celebrate Lesbian Visibility Week, Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network with Aysha Rahman of the University鈥檚 EDI Team will be running a safe listening space on Wednesday 28 April 2021 12:30 to 13:30. It is open to all women to discuss their experiences of life, love and work or to raise questions, issues or concerns in a safe environment.
To attend please email uoslgbt@soton.ac.uk.
If you have a personal story of achievement that you鈥檇 like us to celebrate during this week, please get in touch as did Liz and Charlie.
Liz Carter, Customer Services Assistant says:
鈥淲hat is an out lesbian? Someone who 鈥榣ooks鈥 like a lesbian, doesn鈥檛 mind who knows, has a fabulous bunch of colleagues who don鈥檛 care one way or another, doing a job she loves for an organisation that prides itself with always striving to be as inclusive as it can? If that鈥檚 the definition, then that鈥檚 me 100%.鈥
Charlie Barton, Work Experience Manager:
鈥淏eing 鈥榙ifferent鈥 in any way can be daunting when you start a new job, however, from the moment I joined I felt totally at ease and welcomed into a community that really allows you to bring your whole self to work. A staggering 1 in 3 LGBTQ+ individuals have experienced bullying or harassment in the workplace, and I know how upsetting and demoralising this can feel. I feel so proud to work for the University and happy that our environment celebrates diversity and is a progressive place to work.鈥
