Southampton soars in QS World University Rankings 2022

Ourgrowingglobalreputation has led toaremarkable rise of 13 places in the, placing us77thamong the 1,300 universities ranked overall by QS – a climb of 25 places since 2018andourhighestQSrankingin nearly a decade.

OurPresident and Vice-ChancellorProfessor Mark E. Smithpraised colleagues for their excellent contributionsthat ultimatelymadethis achievement possible.

“I extend a heartfelt thank youto all of my colleagues across the Universityfor allyou have done to help us to achievethisrecognition,”said Professor Smith.

“To have improved our position by more than 10 places from within the top 100 is a really strong performanceand a true indicator of our status as a world-leading university as seen by our peers and those in industry and other sectors with whom we collaborate and who continue to recruit our high-quality graduates in great numbers.

“Being recognised in the top 100 issomething that we, at Southampton, will celebrate as formal recognition of the dedication shown by our hard-working and trail-blazing staff and students,and our impact-led and globally-relevant research, all of which is creating a positive impact across the globe.”

This yearwe’vescored particularly well forourreputation among employers, moving up 31 placesin this category,while increasing ourresearch citations per faculty, leading to a riseof41 places.In addition, weimproved 21 places for the proportion of students who are international, a strong reflection of the University’s continued popularity amongst students from around the world.

Data relating to the corresponding subject by subject performance in the 2022 QS World University Rankings will be available in autumn this year, with the QS World University Rankings by subject themselves released in March 2022.
