University to fly purple flag to mark International Day of People with Disabilities

The University will be flying a purple flag to celebrate and raise awareness of the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD) on Friday 3 December.

This year the theme of IDPWD is 鈥楩ighting for rights in a post-COVID era鈥. More information about the IPDWD movement can be found on their website .

In recent years, the colour purple has been increasingly associated with disability. The is a global movement that shows commitment to disability inclusion, appreciation of the economic contribution of disabled employees and is a way to celebrate and connect with disabled people worldwide. Libby Barton, UoS Disability Staff Network Chair says: 鈥淚t is fantastic that the University is recognising IDPWD as part of the wider UK Disability History Month celebrations. Recognising the date aims to raise awareness of disability and celebrate the value that diversity brings.鈥

The Public Engagement Research unit (PERu) will be hosting Research Caf茅 42 for International Day of People with Disabilities on Friday 3聽December. Registration is required to attend this in person event through .
