End of term update on COVID-19, safety, travel, and opening times

Due toÌýtheÌýongoing effects of theÌýCOVID-19 pandemic, planning forÌýwinterÌýbreak this year may be more difficult for youÌýthan before.ÌýTherefore, noÌýmatter what you choose to do, we have compiled the most up-to-date informationÌýfor travelling and testing, as well as the services we have available during the breakÌýif you areÌýstaying with us.ÌýÌý

Opening Times

If you are in SouthamptonÌýor WinchesterÌýduring this time, please rest assured thatÌýourÌýfacilitiesÌýwill remain openÌýto you.ÌýBelowÌýis a list of what is available. We advise that you check the webpages linked when you are planning your visitÌýforÌýthe most up-to-date opening times:ÌýÌý

  • Hartley Library will be openÌýevery day, except for Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.ÌýThe Health Services Library will be open on the same days, with an additional closure day on the 27 December.Ìý.ÌýÌý
  • Except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day,ÌýJubilee Sports Centre and Mayflower GymÌýwill stay open every day during the break.ÌýCheck the schedule for all our facilities on the website.ÌýÌý
  • ÌýandÌýÌýwill also be available for youÌýat the usual timesÌýthroughout this winter break, except forÌýweekendsÌýand Bank Holidays.ÌýÌý

COVID-19: Testing, Travel, and Support

If you are travelling during the winter break, here is a breakdown ofÌýwhat youÌýare required to do to keep yourself, yourÌýloved ones,ÌýandÌýourÌýcommunity safe,Ìýdepending on your destination.ÌýBefore youÌýtravel,Ìýplease make sure you check the latest government guidelines (links below), as well as your university inbox, forÌýany changes that may occur before your return.ÌýÌý

Please note that you are now legally required to wear a face covering on public transport.ÌýÌý

Students are expected to continue taking two saliva tests until theÌýend of term.ÌýMore details about how to register for the scheme andÌýthe testingÌýprogrammeÌýwinter closure can be found on the SUSSED post published onÌý8 December.ÌýÌý

If you are travelling within the UKÌýduring thisÌýperiod,Ìýplease make sure youÌýtake two tests (ideally three days apart)Ìýbefore leaving. This way you will be reassured before you see your friends and family. Over the winter break please continue to testÌýtwice a week using lateralÌýflow devicesÌý(LFDs), including immediately before returning to the University. Ìý

If you are travellingÌýoverseas,ÌýpleaseÌýcheck the guidelines for your destination countryÌýin advance, as many countries haveÌýrecentlyÌýintroduced new restrictions. During yourÌýstay,Ìýensure youÌýmonitor theÌýÌýfor when you return, and plan accordingly.ÌýAdditionally, pleaseÌýÌýfor any updates, asÌý.ÌýIf your countryÌýis added toÌýthe red list during your stay,Ìýplease contact The Student HubÌýfor support.ÌýÌý

This way we will ensure you are supported throughoutÌýthis challenging time.Ìý

Data Centre Closure

BetweenÌýMondayÌý20 DecemberÌýandÌýTuesday 4 January, the University is undertaking some essential electrical testing work at its primary data centre. This will affect some of our online systems and services. .ÌýÌý
