TEDx Southampton University returns in 2022

The Public Engagement with Research unit (PERu) is delighted to be bringing TEDx Southampton University back to Southampton this year. The event will take place on Saturday 18 June in the Turner Sims concert hall on Highfield Campus. For full details, including the speaker line-up and link to register, keep an eye on the .

The event lead, Dr Tony Curran, said, 鈥淚鈥檓 so excited we鈥檙e continuing the run of TEDx events in Southampton this year, for the benefit of the University and wider Southampton community. People and teams across the University and the city are supporting the event, to ensure it will be a stimulating and enjoyable day.鈥

Nine speakers will present a variety of thought-provoking ideas to spark discussion and connections. There will also be short audio-visual performances and refreshments.

The first confirmed speaker is alumnus Owen Gaffney. Owen鈥檚 talk, 鈥楾he planetary emergency: this decade critical鈥, will reveal the science that shows the planetary emergency we face, and how the necessary changes are within our power through 鈥榩ositive tipping points鈥. Owen鈥檚 recent co-authored book 鈥楤reaking Boundaries鈥 features a foreword by Greta Thunberg, and the documentary of the book on Netflix is narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

This will be the tenth TEDx put on in Southampton by members of the University. The first took place on campus in 2013, and they have since toured venues including the Berry Theatre in Eastleigh (2016) and Nuffield Guildhall Square (2018). Many of the talks can be found on .
