Arguably the most compelling questions in modern physics revolve around how the Universe evolved to its present state across cosmic time and how structure was imprinted. Professor Peiris has made enormous contributions to our understanding of these problems, working on missions mapping the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and leveraging new surveys of the sky to push the boundaries of human understanding. For her ground-breaking work she has been awarded numerous prestigious prizes including the Hoyle Medal, G枚ran Gustafsson Prize in physics and Eddington medal to name but a few. In this lecture, entitled 鈥淭he Universe: A Detective Story鈥� Professor Peiris will present the story of the fundamental physics revealed by the Big Bang itself.
