Annual 34th Wellington Lecture

Professor Tony Pollard, Professor of Conflict Archaeology and History at the University of Glasgow will be joining us to speak on ‘Aftermath, 1815 and Beyond: Battlefield Clearance and Archaeology at Waterloo’.
In addition to the lecture there will be the opportunity to visit an exhibition celebrating forty years of collecting archives – “The Duke presents his compliments鈥�.
The exhibition in the Special Collections Gallery, Level 4, Hartley Library, will run weekdays 10:00-16:00 16 October 鈥� 15 December 2023 and 8 January 鈥� 16 February 2024. On Tuesday 17 October, the exhibition will be open until 17:30 for all lecture guests to attend on that day or you are welcome to visit at a later date. Booking to view the exhibition is not required.

This year鈥檚 lecture speaker will be Dame Kate Bingham DBE HonFRS. Kate is a managing partner at a venture capital firm, SV Health Investors. In 2020, she chaired the UK Government’s Vaccine Taskforce, steering procurement of vaccines and the strategy for their deployment during the COVID-19 pandemic.听

We are pleased to bring you an exclusive screening鈥痮f the film titled 鈥楢lex Lewis: Mountain鈥�.听 This film鈥痙ocuments the gruelling expedition of Hampshire residents Alex Lewis and David Collinson up the highest mountain in Ethiopia, Ras Dashen. Using an off-road, solar-powered, mobility handcycle which was designed at the University of Southampton.听

Annual Wade Lecture with Sir Peng Tee Khaw

This year we will be welcoming Sir Peng Tee Khaw, a consultant and ophthalmic surgeon specialising in adult and paediatric glaucoma.听
Sir Khaw is the Director of the National Institute of Health’s Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields, and University College London’s Institute of鈥�Ophthalmology. He has raised more than 拢120 million for research and buildings including funding for the world’s largest Children’s Eye Hospital and translational research clinical centre.听
