Following a successful pilot of the Social Mobility Safe Listening Space earlier this year, the Social Mobility Network invites staff, PGRs and Undergraduate students to join Safe Listening Spaces across the year, starting on Wednesday 8 November.

What is social mobility?ÌýÌý

Social mobility is the link between a person’s occupation or income and the occupation or income of their parents. Where there is a strong link, there is a lower level of social mobility. Where there is a weak link, there is a higher level of social mobility.Ìý

The University of Southampton Social Mobility NetworkÌý

is a dedicated space for individuals who self-define as either currently being from, or originating from, a low socioeconomic background as well as those who have a vested interest to get involved with the work of the Network and can act as champions for it. Members of the Social Mobility Network can inform and create change that will benefit students and staff at the University of Southampton who are from income or class backgrounds that traditionally experience more obstacles.Ìý

Safe Listening Spaces provide an opportunity for a confidential, open discussion focused on lived experience in a safe environment. Any key themes will be anonymously shared with the working group to support future work.Ìý
