Important changes to Consultancy guidance from 24 June

Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise (KEE) is an important way in which the University can achieve wider impact in tackling real-world problems. One form of KEE is Consultancy.ÌýÌý

From 24 June 2024 a new set of will supplement the University’s , which is currently being revised. These provide up to date guidance on the approach to be taken by all staff undertaking any form of consulting activity.Ìý

All eligible academic and professional services staff, technicians and staff on enterprise contracts, should familiarise themselves with the new approach ().ÌýÌý

Headline changesÌý

  • Consultancy undertaken on an ad-hoc basis by academic staff, which was previously referred to as ‘Ad-hoc consultancy under the ‘30-day rule,’’ is now called ‘non-core consultancy’.
  • Most non-core consultancy across all faculties will now be administered via the Enterprise Administration Support Team (EAST) east@soton.ac.uk, except for CPD requests. See the Principles for further details and a list of alternative administration teams.Ìý
  • Contractual support for core consultancy and other enterprise activities continues to be provided by the RIS Enterprise and IP Contracts Team entcon@soton.ac.uk.
  • All Private and non-core consulting is subject to approval from the relevant Head of Department or School using the which must be then submitted via Worktribe. More details on the .
  • An updated income distribution model applies across all faculties. After deduction of any direct project costs by the University, any remaining income will be divided on a 70/30 basis (individual/University).Ìý
