The fellowship is awarded to renowned social scientists who have made significant contributions to social sciences and beyond, including to policy, higher education and industry, which address major challenges facing society.
Prof Helen Carr, who is a Professor of Social Justice and Property Law, said: “I am so proud to have had my socio-legal research on housing and homelessness recognised by the Academy of Social Sciences. In the last decade, my research has influenced government policy, bringing the problem of rural homelessness to a policy audience and most recently I have been working with Southampton City Council as an expert advisor to its scrutiny of the private rented sector.”
Prof Jo Swaffield, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Professor of Economics, added: “I am delighted to have been elected a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and even more so in the company of my esteemed colleague, Professor Helen Carr from the . I am very pleased that my wider contributions to economy and society, via the Home Office’s Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), the Royal Economic Society Women’s Committee and as trustee of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, that built on and out of my research on the UK labour market, were central to my nomination.”
