Dr Roy Edwards made a presentation on ’The History of Accounting in Education’

On 5th of March 2025, Dr Roy Edwards made a presentation on ’The History of Accounting in Education’. Dr Edwards explored how archival and historical documents enhance accounting and finance education.

Using UK Government National Archives, official publications, and digitised media, he demonstrated historical insights on valuation, taxation (including tax heavens), and industrial policies.

The presentation showed how integrating historical resources into accounting education provides a comprehensive learning experience, helping students understand accounting’s role in business and government.

Dr. Roy Edwards began his career working for the Ministry of Defence Procurement Executive and the Lord Chancellor’s Department before pursuing a BSc Econ and PhD at the London School of Economics in 1988.

He joined the University of Southampton in 1999, where he has contributed extensively to the fields of business and management history. Dr. Edwards co-founded the Management and Business History track at the British Academy of Management, which later evolved into a formal Special Interest Group.

He served on the Executive of the Business Archives Council for 12 years, promoting the use of business archives and coordinating the prestigious Wadsworth Prize. As a co-founder of the Archive and Artefact Study Network (A2SN), he has played a key role in organizing events to connect researchers, heritage professionals, and educators in the use of archival material.
