Teachers are in a prime position to influence the health and well-being of young people.Ìý They can play an important role as health promoters in school, whatever age groupÌý or subject areaÌý they teach.. Teachers Ìýcan also benefit from learning about how to improve their own health and well-being and how to be good role models for their pupils.

Health and well-being training for pre-service teachers
Changes in the curricula of training courses for both Primary and Secondary trainee teachers are helping to raise the knowledge and awareness of PSHE and health and well-being issues amongst trainee teachers and to improve their skills in this area in preparation for teaching in schools
TheÌýHealth Day for Initial teacher Education
At theÌýUniversity of Southampton thisÌýis now an annual eventÌýand is part of theÌýcurriculum for all our PGCE students. ItÌýincludes a wide range ofÌýinteractive workshops run by national, regional and localÌýhealth experts, including healthy eating, drugs education, emotional well-being, physical activity and sex and relationship education.

Life Lab
an innovative educational intervention, funded initially by The Wellcome Trust and The Medical Research Council. It is designed to enable 11-16 year old students to discover first hand, how their diets and lifestyles lay the foundations for a healthier life, and how their own health is linked to the health of the children they may have in the future.
