Visiting Professor Stephen Kent presents a lecture on ‘Reimagining the Natural Protein World’ at 4.00pm on 9 June 2014, followed by a drinks reception.
Total chemical synthesis of proteins was one of the 鈥楪rand Challenges’ for synthetic organic chemistry in the twentieth century. Kent’s research group is devoted to inventing chemistries and applying them to reveal the molecular basis of protein function.聽They develop novel methods for the total synthesis of proteins that enable the application of advanced physical methods in unprecedented ways to understand the chemical origins of protein structure and function.聽They also demonstrate that knowledge by the design and construction of protein molecules with novel properties.
