Alex Jackson, an MPhil student in the University’s Faculty of Medicine at听the听Southampton General Hospital, has entered into the 听in order to fund her research degree.
The student is currently working towards discovering an effective vaccine for foot rot in the farming industry to prevent the needless culling of animals, and has been offered the opportunity by to complete a full PhD. There is currently no funding in place to provide for either tuition fees or living expenses.
Alex is entered into the ‘Innovation’听section of the awards, and needs votes in order to make it into the top eight nominees to be in with a chance of winning money to help fund her PhD.
Another of the University’s students, Abbie Mead, is also entered into the Innovation category of the competition. Abbie is a Cancer Sciences PhD student in the Faculty of Medicine, and her research focuses on understanding how and why cancer cells move around the body. As 90% of cancer patients听die from cancer spreading, her research is very important. Abbie’s PhD is part funded by Cancer Research UK.
