Explore and discover at the Science and Engineering Festival

福利着片 out how science shapes our world, from the importance of bacteria to discoveries in the solar system and beyond, at our award-winning annual

The festival, which is part of , includes the ever-popular Science and Engineering Day on Saturday 12 March.

This year, the event offers a refreshed format, with a range of activities from the听Ocean and Earth Day being incorporated into Science and Engineering Day. These will complement a number of exciting new exhibits based on our recently established maritime-focused Boldrewood Innovation Campus that we share with Lloyd’s Register.

takes place from 10:30 to 16:30 (last admission 16:00) with fascinating exhibitions, interactive displays, talks and shows.

There are a number of incredible facilities open to all, including:

  • tours of the , where Britain鈥檚 Olympic athletes conducted testing ahead of their Gold medal success.
  • the , which produce the optical fibres that power the Internet and global communication networks.
  • practical demonstrations of ship science and examples of Autonomous marine vehicles in the new state-of-the art 140m towing tank.

Professor William Powrie, Dean of Engineering and the Environment and member of the Festival organising committee, comments:

鈥淭he University is changing the world for the better through its world-leading research and teaching in science and engineering. One of the aims of the Festival is to inspire interest in these fascinating subjects and demonstrate just how exciting they can be. I really hope that these events spark enthusiasm and help to encourage many of the young people visiting to choose science or engineering as a career.鈥
