2016 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards (Quality): Excel Internship Programme

This year鈥檚 Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 Awards celebrate exceptional contributions made by colleagues in the areas of collegiality, quality, internationalisation and sustainability. This short series of articles will share what makes the teams and individual winners special.

The was launched by the University in 2009 to support students to develop essential skills and enhance their employability.

The nominee’s citation included the wording:

The team has worked tirelessly to deliver a step change in the number of work experience opportunities offered to students – a key strategic objective for the University. They have delivered a significant increase in the size of the programme, from around 170 internship opportunities in 2013 to nearly 450 this year. They are on track, with the wider team, to achieve their target of 1,000 work experience opportunities next year.

The opportunities that are sourced by the placement team differentiate us from our fellow institutions. The team has been recognised through its receipt of several national awards over the last two years, displaying our quality and raising our reputation in an extremely positive way among critical employer networks.

Ann Cooper, Head of Placements and Work Experience said of the award:

鈥淲e are honoured to have received a Vice-Chancellor’s award for Quality. It is great that our contribution to delivering the University strategy has been recognised, as we are all very passionate about the programme and supporting our students with work experience opportunities.鈥

Quality is one of the four underlying principles central to the success of our and will underpin our strategic activities. Quality: always striving to achieve the highest quality in everything we do.
