According to UNICEF, globally around 800 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth; one in five of these women are from India.

Professor Sabu Padmadas and Professor Zoe Matthews from Social Sciences are leading a study to evaluate innovations in India to improve maternal and child health.
Sabu said:
鈥淲e are identifying areas of best practice and sharing these with the World Health Organisation, so that they can also benefit millions of vulnerable people across other low and middle-income settings of Asia and Africa.鈥
