Opening up our libraries

We are pleased toÌýwelcome you back toÌýourÌýÌýfor studying and browsing. You will notice some changes: study spaces and browsing slots must be Ìýand we have new measures in place to keep you safe.Ìý

Our initial opening hours are:Ìý

  • Hartley Library: Monday – Friday,Ìý11:00-15:00 (from 10 September)Ìý
  • Health Services Library: Tuesday – Thursday, 11:00-15:00 (fromÌý3 September)Ìý
  • Winchester School of Art Library: Tuesday – Thursday, 11:00-15:00Ìý(fromÌý22 September)Ìý
  • National Oceanographic Library: reopening date to be confirmedÌý

Term timeÌýopening hours will start on 28 September.Ìý

We have taken the decisionÌýwith the Faculty of HumanitiesÌýfor the Avenue Library & Learning Commons to remainÌýclosedÌýuntil January 2021. It is guided by the need to make additional short-term space available for teaching and learning, and difficulties ensuring the Library & Learning Commons would be COVID-secure for staff and students.Ìý

Studying in the Libraries: â¶Ä¯â€¯a studyÌýspace. Study spaces are two metres apart andÌýcleaning materialsÌýwill beÌýprovided. The computer workstation rooms within the libraries remain closed, butÌýsome bookable PCsÌýwill be available.Ìý

Browse & Borrow:  a timeslot to select books from the shelves, then use the self-issue machine.

Click & Collect: You can continue to use our Click & Collect service to reserve books to collect any time theÌýlibraries areÌýopen. Ìý

Book returns: You can return books to theÌýHartley book returns letterbox or theÌýred box outside theÌýHealth ServicesÌýLibraryÌýand Winchester School of Art LibraryÌýentrances. It may take a few days before the books are removed from your library account. All books will be quarantined to ensure they are safe to borrow. Ìý

We have been working hard to put measures in place to ensure safe use of our libraries, including: Ìý

  •          Hand sanitisers atÌýlibrary entrancesÌýand increased cleaning
  •          Limited occupancy with prebooked study spaces to enable social distancing 
  •          Test & trace systemÌý
  •          Perspex screens at service desks 
  •          A one-way route around the library to avoid congestion 
  •          A quarantine system for returned items
