Zepler Institute for Photonics and Nanoelectronics (ZIPN) has undergone significant changes over the past year, including the retirement of senior colleagues and the departure of others covering specific discipline areas.聽 As a result, following consultation across colleagues in the School, a proposal to change the name back to the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) was presented to the Faculty, and then to UEB, Senate and the University Council in late 2023.
The Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) 鈥� was established in 1989 and the return to this renowned brand will provide clarity and enable the School to build on the significant reputational contribution as internationally-leading in research, generating strong industrial impact and in championing cutting-edge research facilities, including the Zepler Cleanrooms.
