Staff engagement survey 2024 results

Thank you to everyone who completed the 2024 staff engagement survey, which closed on 22 November 2024. We achieved a 68% response rate (down 1% from last year) and an engagement score of 77% (same as last year’s survey) both of which are above the Russell Group average.

As in previous years, the results have been clustered into seven themes: Autonomy, Enablement, Engagement, Environmental Sustainability, Inclusion, Leadership and Reward. The following results were shared with UEB on Tuesday 10 December.

It is worth noting we have held our position in the theme of inclusion, and this has greatly strengthened our standing in the sector. See below with this year’s results compared to the Russell Group comparator:

We received over 3,000 comments in response to the free text question and these cover a number of themes.  The comments will be taken into account in our action planning.

When will I find out the results for my area?

A number of managers and leaders, including all Deans and Executive Directors, will be given direct access to their results via the People Insight interactive dashboard, which they can easily compare with their results from previous surveys. They will be sharing these shortly with their teams and with support from their HR business partner, will continue working in January to further develop their action plans in response.

What happens next?

The Vice Chancellor will be discussing the staff engagement survey results with colleagues in his 2025 town halls and leaders will be working on action plans to act on the feedback received.
