Ongoing protests and counter-protests in Southampton: Information for students

We want to make all students aware that weekly anti-immigration protests and counter-protests are currently taking place on Friday evenings outside a hotel on Highfield Lane, as is happening in many cities across the UK. Your safety and wellbeing are our top priority. These events are ongoing and may continue for some time.Ìý

Please note that in addition to the weekly protests, one is scheduled to take place tonight, Wednesday 24 September 2025.

What you need to know

  • We respect the right to lawful protest and free speech, but we know these events can be unsettling.Ìý

  • If you feel unsafe or anxious about travelling to or attending campus, please contact The Student Hub for advice and support.Ìý

  • Avoid areas where demonstrations are planned or taking place whenever possible.

  • Report any incidents or concernsÌýusingÌý, or contact the Police if the incident is outside the University.Ìý

  • International studentsÌýcan also contact the UK Council for International Student Affairs Advice Line on +44 20 7788 9214, Monday to Friday, 13:00–16:00 (UK time).Ìý
