Supporting mental health in the workplace: new University initiatives for staff

10 October is World Mental Health Day and the University’s  has launched a number of new initiatives to support mental health in the workplace.

Today workers are under greater pressure to meet the demands of modern working life. International research by the World Health Organisation into public attitudes suggests that although there is growing awareness of the effectiveness of mental health treatments, social acceptance of co-workers with mental illness has not improved.

The University initiatives have the full support of our Mental Health Champion, the Chief Operating Officer, Ian Dunn. Our focus is on sustainable, preventative strategies in the protection of mental health at work, to include Wellbeing assessment training currently being piloted by Professional Services teams. Also, regular campaigns and events to challenge the stigma around mental health, such as Men’s Health Matters in November.
