Module overview
In this module you will be introduce to illustration as a practice that communicates ideas, stories, and experiences to different audiences. Through structured studio tasks, practice based experimentation, and guided research, you will begin to understand how illustration can influence people, respond to contexts, and contribute to conversations in the wider world.
You will explore a range of drawing, making, and digital skills while learning how illustrators work with meaning, message, and visual voice. The module emphasises hands‑on discovery, reflective thinking, and developing confidence in trying new processes. By working on small, focused projects, students gain early experience in how illustration can have impact—whether personal, social, cultural or communicative—while building foundational studio habits and working methods.
